Yesterday, Saturday, the Atlanta Braves signed free agent left handed pitcher Rex Brothers to a minor league contract with an invite to Spring training. Rex Brothers should be a familiar name to baseball fans. Brothers has previously pitched for the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies.
Rex Brothers was drafted in 2009 by the Rockies. Brothers played college baseball at Lipscomb University. His wife’s name is Jill Brothers and last season season he pitched with the Chicago Cubs. He wore the number 50 in Chicago and number 49 with the Rockies. If Brothers makes the final 40 man roster for the Braves it will be interesting to see which jersey number he chooses. Jersey numbers are fun for me as a Braves fan. Dansby Swanson changed jersey numbers this off season from number 2 to 7. Good thing I didn’t buy a Swanson 2 jersey last year.
Rex Brothers will be a great pitching option for the Braves bullpen. He brings 8 years of MLB experience and since he is a Southpaw, he can play a big role in the bullpen if he is brought into pitch in relief. His birthday is December 8, 1987. He can be a veteran presence in the young bullpen for the Braves. The Braves might go with another pitching arm for their final 40 man roster, or they might have another bench player. That will be one of the many decisions for the coaches and manager Brian Snitker. Get ready Atlanta, the Falcons are playing in the Super bowl today and Spring training starts next week. GO BRAVES!!!!!
