The Nationals end the Braves winning streak at 6 games.

Last night’s  game did have possibilities. However in the end the Atlanta Braves managed to score only one run. The Washington Nationals pitching was dominant and the Braves only scarred a few hits against Max Scherzer. Scherzer continued to pitch even after he had thrown over 100 pitches, but the Nationals bullpen is not very reliable. The Braves starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz pitched a very good game and only allowed 2 earned runs to the Nationals lineup, but those were enough runs to beat the Braves last night in Atlanta.

Coming into last night’s game the Nationals lineup had the best hitting average in Major League Baseball. Although they did not score at will against the Braves they got the key hits when they needed them and the Braves did not. The Braves had scoring opportunities but Scherzer pitched his way out of them. The Braves have not played the Nationals very well and last night proved that. You have to begin to wonder if it’s more of a mental challenge or if the Nationals are just that good. They certainly were last night.

On a positive note for the Braves Freddie Freeman continued his hitting ways. The Atlanta Braves first baseman has now reached base in 10 consecutive plate appearances. Teams are either pitching around Freeman or he is getting timely base hits. Unfortunately the Braves Ender Inciatre and Dansby Swanson are not getting on base to take advantage of Freeman’s hot batting streak. Things can change and the Braves will have the opportunity to hit against Stephen Strasburg tonight.

Stephen Strasburg had been one of MLB most dynamic pitching arms. He is either being over worked by his manager Dusty Baker or his pitching mechanics need some adjusting. Mike Maddux the Nationals pitching coach is trying to help Strasburg and he supposedly has a new pitching style that will be on display tonight in Atlanta. The Braves are still without Matt Kemp who is going to start tonight at AAA Gwinnett to test his hamstring. The Braves want Kemp back to close to 100 percent. There is no need to bring back their cleanup hitter and risk further injury. Maybe tonight the Braves can start a new winning streak and have a better game against their division rivals tonight. GO BRAVES!!!!!
