The Braves get a much needed win against the Mets in New York.

The Braves fan base can breathe a sigh of relief. Last night in New York the Braves got something they rarely have gotten this season an early lead. It was nice watching the Braves score 5 runs in the first inning. Tyler Flowers had a bases loaded double that cleared the bases. It was nice seeing the Braves play small ball and not to rely primarily on homeruns for scoring runs. Maybe the day off in New York after Tuesday’s rain delay helped energized the Braves lineup. Plus Julio Teheran continued his dominance over the New York Mets.

The Atlanta Braves had come off of series sweeps to the Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves were in desperate need of not only a win but a division win in the National League East. This is a short series with the Mets with today afternoon’s game being the last scheduled game. The rain delay was re-scheduled for September in part of a double header. The Braves are hoping to get back to a.500 record and this road trip might do just that. The Braves bats did enjoy the Mets pitching early on but the Mets pitching staff allowed 3 more runs after the first inning.

Freddie Freeman continued his hot streak with an early inning walk. Teams are pitching around Freeman but unfortunately Matt Kemp and Nick Markakis are waiting at number 4 and 5 in the batting lineup prospectively. The bottom of the order is hitting well with Tyler Flowers cementing his role. Dansby Swanson is in a slight slump and seems to be pressing while at the plate. Hopefully the Braves coaching staff can resolve that issue. Today’s game will be an afternoon game before the Braves travel to Milwaukee for a series against the Brewers. The Braves are focusing on one game and win at a time. I’m not suggesting the Braves are back, but it’s a lot easier waking up after a Braves win than a loss. GO BRAVES!!!!!
