It is difficult being optimistic. I always take the stance that the glass is half full despite other factors. The Atlanta Braves are causing me some worry this 2017 season, but we all have our limits. Watching the St. Louis Cardinals sweep the Braves in Atlanta is rough. It was nice watching the Braves come back from a 4 run deficit yesterday, but after watching the Braves unable to push just one run across the plate in extra innings is disheartening.
There were a couple of opportunities yesterday with a runner on third base, only 90feet away from a Braves victory, and the Braves couldn’t bring him home. The Braves even ran out of pinch hitters and had to use their pitcher Julio Teheran as a hitter. Obviously the Braves are in need of a big bat off the bench and Ryan Howard should help, but waiting for him to make his Braves major league debut is like waiting for Christmas in the Summer. Eventually it will happen but how long do fans have to wait?
When the Braves organization announced the new stadium in Cobb county and the potential move from Turner field, there was some apprehension. SunTrust Park seemed to be the ideal park in the major leagues. This ballpark seemed to cater to left handed hitters and Freddie Freeman has taken advantage of this, but so have the other left handed batters in baseball.
Freddie Freeman, Matt Kemp, and Nick Markakis are hitting the ball well in the middle of the order. Ender Inciatre is fantastic in center field and at the plate. The bottom of the Braves lineup needs some work and the Braves manager Brian Snitker would agree. It was nice watching Dansby Swanson drive in a run yesterday that helped the Braves tie the game at 4 runs, but maybe it’s time for Braves fans to ask, who besides Freddie Freeman can the Braves rely on? Building a new stadium with all the bells and whistles isn’t the answer.
Yes the Braves opened up SunTrust Park with a win, but calling playing in Atlanta home field advantage might be a stretch. So far in 2017 the Braves seem to be a better road team. Maybe having Ryan Howard available in Atlanta will help, but the Braves need help and they need it now. The Braves are off today before beginning a short series with the Astros in Houston. Maybe the Braves can restore confidence in Atlanta. We need a good road trip and we don’t want to fall too far behind in the National League East. We can do it Braves, let’s put our heads together. GO BRAVES!!!!!
