All it took was one swing of the bat. Up until the bottom of the 7th inning Atlanta Braves knuckle ball pitcher R.A. Dickey had held the Miami Marlins in check. Then after allowing 2 base runners in the bottom of the inning a pinched hitter ruined the game for Dickey and the Braves. The Braves had only scored 1 run until that point, but it almost seemed to be enough against a struggling Marlin’s offense.
Matt Kemp saw his hitting streak end at 12 games as he went 0 for 4 at the plate. But Freddie Freeman continued his hot production at the plate. Dansby Swanson also increased his hitting streak to 6 games. Nick Markakis had a productive day at the plate but the Braves hits were random and the team only managed to push 1 run across home plate in 9 innings.
Although the Braves lost yesterday’s game it was great seeing another positive sign as their 3rd straight starting pitcher had a great game throwing. The Braves starting pitching had taken a lot of heat recently about the team’s lack of winning games. Mike Foltynewicz and Julio Teheran both pitched fantastic games and R.A. Dickey can add his name to the list as well. Bartolo Colon and Jamie Garcia will be the next 2 Braves starters to be tested against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Braves will have a 4 game series against the Blue Jays with 2 games in Toronto and 2 more in Atlanta. Although Bobby Cox had many memorable things he said as manager of the Braves, the one thing he always told and stressed with the Braves is to just win series. Often critics and baseball writers seem to focus too much on winning streaks and individual statistics, what Bobby Cox said remains very true. Just win series and the season will take care of itself. The Braves do not have the best record in baseball, but it’s not the worst either. As the Braves prepare for Toronto, just focus on winning the series. GO BRAVES!!!!!!
