Kurt Suzuki comes up huge for the Braves as they defeat the Nationals in Atlanta.

There is nothing wrong with having dual catchers. The Atlanta Braves are enjoying having Kurt Suzuki and Tyler Flowers playing behind the plate. Kurt Suzuki not only tied the game in the bottom of the 5th inning but he hit the go ahead 3 run homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning as well. The Braves needed someone to step up in the lineup, last night it was the Braves catcher.

All the credit can not go to Suzuki however. Matt Kemp had a great night at the plate and Dansby Swanson got 2 solid base hits. Braves lead off man Ender Inciatre used his speed on the bases last night and started the game with a bunt single. That brought the Braves crowd to it’s feet but there was more excitement to come.

R.A. Dickey pitched a solid game however he was not involved in the final decision. The Braves bullpen shut down the Washington Nationals hitters from the 6th inning on. It’s is often overlooked how dominating the Braves bullpen has been recently. While the offense seems to take center stage trying ways to replace the injured Freddie Freeman, teams are almost down playing how well the bullpen is playing.

It’s true that baseball is a team sport and no one player is above the team. If the Braves play as a team as well as they did last night, the focus may shift from the injuries of Adonis Garcia and Freeman. Players listening to their coaches is key and doing their job is expected. The Braves have Eddie Perez coaching at 1st base and Ron Washington at 3rd base. They bring major league experience to their positions and coaching mistakes are rare.

If the Braves can ride the storm without 2 of their starting infielders then the credit should and will go to the Braves manager Brian Snitker. Last night’s game offered baseball fans all the drama a sporting event can have. Great offense, defense, and pitching. The Nationals are in first place in the National League East and the Braves are in second place. Last night’s game set the stage for great baseball and there is more to follow in this afternoon’s game between the same ball clubs. Get ready for an exciting series Atlanta, the Braves are playing some great baseball. GO BRAVES!!!!!
