Adams hits  walk off single as the Braves win the first 2 games from the Pirates.

Matt Adams is just what the Atlanta Braves needed. When the Braves learned that Freddie Freeman would be on the disabled list with a fractured left wrist, the Braves front office kicked into high gear. Braves president John Hart and general manager John Coppolella started seeing who might step in to fill the position at 1st base. Jace Peterson had filled in for a few games and did well, but the Braves were looking for a long term solution.

The Braves signed free agent James Loney to AAA Gwinnett. Loney night have worked out after he got into major league baseball shape, but the Braves were able to trade with the St. Louis Cardinals and bring Matt Adams to Atlanta immediately. There is no replacing Freeman who is one of the best players in baseball, but Adams is taking this opportunity to showcase his power and baseball knowledge. Adams hit another homerun early in last night’s game and then at almost 2am hit a go ahead single down the left field line to secure the Braves win.

It was an exciting 9th inning and the Pittsburg Pirates rallied off of Braves closer Jim Johnson to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the 9th inning the Braves team and crowd stayed until 2am and were rewarded with a Braves win. Braves 2nd baseman Brandon Phillips was quoted, “since we were here so late, we might as well win.” Phillips was exactly right as he is becoming one of the more funnier players in the clubhouse. Laughing in life is key and who doesn’t appreciate a good laugh?

R.A Dickey pitched a solid game and despite pitching on 3 days rest, you couldn’t tell last night. The knuckleballer allowed the Pirates 2 early scores, but this Braves team likes to rally from behind. I’m sure Braves manager Brian Snitker would prefer an early lead, but a win is a win. The Braves bullpen had set a new Braves record not allowing a hit for 56 innings, last night that record ended. Records and streaks don’t last forever and the Braves bullpen deserves a round of applause.

Tonight Julio Teheran looks to get back on track as the Braves go for another series win. Teheran enjoyed an extra day of rest and this Pirates team is no pushover. The Braves are playing very well and have won 8 of their last 11 games. The Braves have gone on winning and losing streaks t this season. Hopefully the Braves will close out their home stance before traveling to the West coast. One game at a time is what Brian Snitker preaches to his players but getting back to a .500 record would be nice. GO BRAVES!!!!!
