The Braves fall to the Pirates and head out West.

The Atlanta Braves did split the series with the Pittsburg Pirates. That’s the good news. Bartolo Colon allowed 5 runs in the 1st inning yesterday, that’s the bad news. Colon did not have his good stuff yesterday and the Pirates took full advantage. Ivan Nova the starting pitcher for the Pirates did pitch a wonderful game and it’s best to give credit where credit is due.

With injuries on the Braves corners at 1st and 3rd base to Freddie Freeman and Adonis Garcia respectively, the Braves have found a couple of diamonds in the ruff. Matt Adams, a traded player from the St. Louis Cardinals, at first base is filling in remarkably and the Braves have found a great 3rd baseman in their minor league in Rio Ruiz. Ruiz had 3 hits yesterday and is becoming a Braves favorite in the clubhouse and on the field.

The Braves have decided to keep Ruiz on their roster for the road trip out West. Once Adonis Garcia returns to the Braves, manager Brian Snitker will have a decision to make. Ruiz is swinging a hot bat, but his fielding and throwing at 3rd base can use work. Ruiz is getting his experience at 3rd base at the major league level. This is not the first time Ruiz is playing at 3rd base, and he is making mistakes and errors a rookie would make

The Braves fielding around the base pads is by no means perfect. Dansby Swanson at shortstop and Brandon Phillips have also made their fair share of errors. Even Freddie Freeman playing at first makes errors and despite the term routine groundball, there is no such thing. The Braves are going to practice and play as a team. It’s very evident that this is a team sport and no one player is above the team. Tonight’s game against the San Francisco Giants will be a great game and it will be a great series. GO BRAVES!!!!!
