Last night Mike Foltynewicz pitched brilliantly. Foltynewicz pitched 7 strong innings of shut out baseball, and pitched his way around difficult opportunities when the Philadelphia Phillies threatened with base runners. The Atlanta Braves were in desperate need of a win, and Mike Foltynewicz certainly allowed for that opportunity.
The Braves got huge offensive nights from Dansby Swanson and Nick Markakis. First Dansby Swanson was great at the plate going 3 for 4 at the plate and hit a 3 run homerun early in the game to give Mike Foltynewicz an early lead. Swanson’s play at shortstop was fantastic as well. His teammate Nick Markakis had himself a great night at the plate also. Markakis hit 3 doubles and had a very impressive 5 RBIs last night.
This win came at a crucial time for the Braves who were desperate for a win at home in SunTrust Park and against the Phillies. Their division rivals Phillies had been beating the Braves a lot this season but last night the Braves showed no mercy as they scored 14 runs. The Braves can look to even this 4game series with a win tonight in Atlanta. The Braves are now 7 games under.500 but they can certainly use last night’s performance as a rally cry.
The Braves put 3rd baseman Adonis Garcia on the 10 day disabled list and Rio Ruiz looks to get plenty of starts at 3rd base. Ruiz is quickly turning into a fan favorite in the lineup and Ruiz fielding at 3rd is becoming more consistent. Braves manager Brian Snitker was extremely happy last night in the dugout giving high fives and pats on the back to his players. Snitker almost looked like a child at Christmas who just got a new bicycle under the Christmas tree. The Braves look to continue their offensive explosion tonight and get a split series with the Phillies. GO BRAVES!!!!!
