The weekend series with the Mets started with a bang, but then the Braves bats turned cold.

The Braves were not scoring many runs Saturday or Sunday. This left great pitching games from Sean Newcomb and Jamie Garcia go unrewarded. Matt Wisler also pitched this weekend as the Braves have called him and Sean Newcomb up to the majors as the Braves look to try and get their pitching bench in order after the team has been plagued by injuries.

Sean Newcomb was very impressive on the 1st game of a double header Saturday and only allowed 1 earned run over 6 2/3 innings. Unfortunately the the Braves could not take advantage of a bases loaded opportunity early in the game. Newcomb was part of the trade that sent Anderlton Simmons to the Los Angeles Angels. Newcomb was very impressive and and even though the starting rotations were not available, Newcomb looks to get the start over Matt Wisler.

The Braves only managed to score 3 runs in the last 3 games and that lack of production will not cut it in baseball. The Braves do have a few power hitters who are capable of hitting homeruns, but the Braves are not a homerun hitting team. Matt Kemp, Matt Adams, Brandon Phillips, and Dansby Swanson have the power, but they are not looking to go to the plate trying to go deep. The weekend series was disappointing to the Braves who were hoping to put some space between them and the other teams in the National League East for 2nd place.

The Washington Nationals currently hold on to first place and the Braves will start a series with them tonight in Washington. The Braves possibly put too much pressure on themselves for the series with the Mets and it’s possible that a new series with the Nationals could be a nice break from SunTrust Park. The Braves bats need to wake up from their slumber this weekend, and Braves manager Brian Snitker will be looking to turn his team around. GO BRAVES!!!!!
