The Atlanta Braves not only won huge yesterday with 13 runs, but they have beaten the Washington Nationals for the first time since 2014. The Braves won the 1st game of the series on Monday and yesterday behind Julio Teheran’s fantastic pitching performance, the Braves left Washington with a spring in their step as they win the series over the National League East current number 1 team.
After the Braves lost on Tuesday evening they were relying on Julio Teheran to give their team a chance for the series win. The Nationals had never allowed 13 runs this season and the Braves got their revenge on the Nationals in the afternoon game. Brandon Phillips had 4 hits and the Braves bats erupted yesterday. Ender Inciatre enjoyed his 21st multiple hits game in the lead off spot. The Braves also enjoyed hitting the long ball with Kurt Suzuki 3 run homerun early in the game.
Braves outfielder Matt Kemp was taken out of yesterday’s game with a tight hamstring and he is listed day to day on the injury report. Kemp’s injury did not overshadow the Braves productive offense. Several Braves hitters will be sad to leave Washington after having a productive series Matt Adams was on fire for the last 3 games and hit 2 homeruns in 3 games. Nick Markakis had 3 singles yesterday and Dansby Swanson had a very good series with the Nationals as well. Swanson batting average is now over .200 and he seems to be over his season cold spell at the plate.
The Braves will enjoy a day off in Atlanta before they start a new series with the Miami Marlins on Friday night. Sean Newcomb will start his 2nd major league game against the fish and hopefully the Braves can score early and often Friday night. The Braves are now 10 games out of first place in their division and this weekend series with Miami will help out a lot in where both teams stand in the National League East. The Braves will take things 1 game and 1 series at a time, but the mood on yesterday’s flight home to Atlanta had to be a cheerful one. GO BRAVES!!!!!
