Last night at SunTrust Park was a battle of former Cy Young winners as Jon Lester from the Chicago Cubs battled against Julio Teheran of the Atlanta Braves. The pitching was a lot of fun if you are a fan of defense in baseball. Also last night the Braves welcomed back Sean Rodriguez who was injured in a car accident before the start of the 2017 season. Rodriguez got the start at 3rd base as Braves manager Brian Snitker is shuffling the starting lineup to give his players an opportunity to play in Atlanta.
Dansby Swanson and Matt Adams were not in the lineup as Freddie Freeman and Sean Rodriguez played at the corners of the infield. Swanson who normally plays at shortstop gave way to Johan Camargo. The starting Braves lineup only managed to get 3 hits off of Cubs starter Jon Lester. The Braves did have a 9th inning rally and scored twice but were unable to tie the game at SunTrust Park. The Braves defense on the field was very impressive as Freddie Freeman’s glove at 1st base saved at least 4 runs. It’s impossible to know if Matt Adams would had played as well, but that is 1 of the arguments about baseball.
Sean Rodriguez went hitless in his first game with his new team. He had some troubles fielding the ball at 3rd base but overall he played a good game. He and his family were introduced before the start of the game and received a standing ovation from both Braves fans and Cubs fans. There were many Cubs fans last night at SunTrust Park to cheer on the World Series champions and former Braves player and 1st round pick Jason Heyward was welcomed back to Atlanta. The Cubs out fielder was humble and continues to wear a chin guard on his batting helmet after he fractured his jaw in Atlanta.
The 2nd game will be tonight as Sean Newcomb looks to start a new Braves winning streak and try to slow down the Cubs who have been rolling lately winning 4 games in a row. It will be interesting to see the lineup card that will be released this afternoon so the fans can see which players will get the start. The Braves have a slight problem that most major league teams wished they had. Too many players for too few positions. Brian Snitker will make his lineup that gives the Braves the greatest opportunity to win. Hopefully the Braves can get back to their winning ways tonight. GO BRAVES!!!!!
