Sean Newcomb pitches a solid game for the Braves, but the Phillies win in extra innings.

Amid the changes with the Atlanta Braves lineup, Sean Newcomb emerges himself as a quality starting pitcher in the Braves lineup. Sean Newcomb came to the majors with a bang to the Braves pitching lineup and his skills helped make the decision to release Bartolo Colon that much easier. Newcomb is giving the Braves 6 or 7 strong innings, however the Braves bullpen is not able to secure the wins for his quality starts.

The Braves have not defeated the Philadelphia Phillies at their home ballpark this season. The Braves have played very well against the Phillies at SunTrust Park, but the Braves troubles have continued during this road trip. This is the 2 straight series the Braves have lost and the Braves must be happy about returning to Atlanta later today. Braves closer Jim Johnson could not pick up the win in the 9th inning and allowed a game tying homerun to the Phillies.

Braves left fielder Nick Markakis continues his to reach his career goal of 2,000 hits in his major league career by adding 3 more his last night. Markakis had 2 doubles and a single last night to add to his totals. His plays in the outfield are almost as impressive as his numbers at the plate. Nick Markakis currently is only 5 hits away from 2,000 as he is hoping to reach his milestone at SunTrust Park. The Braves will be home after a long road trip and the Braves should be looking forward to the familiar territory.

The Braves will try to win their first game in Philadelphia this season and will send knuckle baller R.A. Dickey to the mound. Freddie Freeman also continues to shine at 3rd base. Last night was Freeman’s 14th game at 3rd base, and turned an outstanding double play as the Braves defense continues to play well despite a lineup that seems to change often. Matt Adams at 1st base continues to his good defensive plays. If the Braves want to end their losing streak in Philadelphia the Braves bullpen needs to step up it’s game. Dickey should pitch another quality start and if Braves closer Jim Johnson is called on again, he should be able to put last night’s blown save behind him. Let’s hope the Braves can end this road trip with a win in Philadelphia. GO BRAVES!!!!!
