Dickey pitches a brilliant game and the Braves leave St. Louis with a much needed win.

When in doubt turn to experience. That should be the call sign of all major league baseball teams. Yesterday afternoon the Atlanta Braves were looking to end their 5 game losing streak and the Braves called on the experience of their veteran pitcher R.A. Dickey. Dickey did not allow a run until the 7th inning as he kept the red hot St. Louis Cardinals lineup in check for 6 scoreless innings.

The Braves offense called upon the top of the lineup for much needed hits and Ender Inciatre and Brandon Phillips answered the call. Inciatre had 3 hits batting lead off and Brandon Phillips has 2 huge hits including a 2 run homerun to help add to the Braves lead. Brandon Phillips and the Cardinals fans have some animosity dating back to when Phillips was a member of the Cincinnati Reds. Phillips played a role in a benches clearing brawl between the 2 rival teams. The Cardinals fans are polite and they appreciate a good game but they have long memories as most fans of baseball tend to do. The BOO birds were out at Busch field yesterday and Brandon Phillips handled the situation with pride.

The Braves bullpen struggled in the 8th inning after being close to shut out innings until yesterday. Former Braves closer Jim Johnson allowed a solo to lead off the inning and the Cardinals had the bases loaded in the 8th inning and created a bit of a scare for Braves fans. The Braves coaches and front office continue to look for a quality pitching staff from starters to relievers. The rookie pitchers like Sean Newcomb and Lucas Sims are now in the Braves starting rotation and getting the major league experience they need in order to become successful major league pitchers. Luckily they can watch veterans like R.A. Dickey and Julio Teheran and take mental notes of how they prepare for their starts and handle different situations.

The Braves flew to Colorado last night as they are preparing for a 4 game series with the Colorado Rockies. The baseball does seem to fly out of Coors field in Denver and the Braves will be calling on their bullpen often in this series. Braves manager Brian Snitker will rely on his starting pitchers to pitch late in the game and help preserve their bullpen. Julio Teheran will get the start tonight in Denver and the Braves are hopeful that he can continue his good pitching on the road. Hopefully the Braves bats will take advantage of the thinner air in Colorado and can smash several homeruns against the Rockies. Hopefully things will click in the Braves starting lineup and with the pitching staff. GO BRAVES!!!!!
