Lucas Sims picks up his first major league win and the Braves split the 4 game series with the Rockies.

After a humiliating loss on Wednesday night in Colorado the Braves smash 4 home runs and Lucas Sims picked up his first major league win. The Atlanta Braves hit four homeruns yesterday against the Colorado Rockies and were able to split the series with the Rockies who are looking to get a wild card playoff spot. Besides from the four homeruns, the Braves lineup also hit two triples in Coors field.

Ender Inciatre had two of the four homeruns yesterday for the Braves. Inciatre also became only the second player in MLB history to hit two homeruns, have two walks, and pick up two stolen bases in the same game. Howard Johnson was the other player to accomplish this. All the homeruns were solo shots, Freddie Freeman and Tyler Flowers were the other Braves players to go deep in Colorado. The Braves speed was put on display yesterday as Ozzie Albies and Dansby Swanson both hit triples. Swanson’s triple lead to an RBI, but watching these young players fly around the bases was a lot of fun for Braves fans.

Lucas Sims got himself out of some early inning trouble to pick up his first major league win. Sims pitched five innings and only allowed three earned runs. The Braves defense was put to the test yesterday as the Colorado Rockies hit mostly ground balls in their loss. The Rockies are now in a tie with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Just for those of you keeping score the Braves are twelve games back in the wild card chase. After yesterday’s game the Braves flew back to Atlanta and they will begin a new series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight at SunTrust Park.

Tonight veteran pitcher R.A. Dickey will get the start as the Braves will play a weekend series with the Reds. Matt Kemp might be making his return to the Braves lineup tonight, but it is too early for the Braves to release their lineup. The Braves have definitely missed their cleanup hitter and he will be a welcomed addition to their lineup card. Nick Markakis has done a good job at the cleanup spot, but Matt Kemp is the power bat in the Braves lineup. It’s very possible the Braves can still compete for one of the wild card spots, but the Braves starting pitching will play a vital role. Hopefully Friday night fireworks in Atlanta will help ignite a spark with the Braves lineup. GO BRAVES!!!!!
