Sean Newcomb picks up his first win at SunTrust Park as the Braves offense explodes in series finale.

The Atlanta Braves might of been anxious about the solar eclipse today or maybe their bats just woke up. Most of the MLB fans have left the Braves for dead and their team seemed like an easy win in the final 6 weeks of the 2017 season. Sean Newcomb shut out the Cincinnati Reds last night after a strong 5 innings and Newcomb lead the way with a great defensive stop where he sacrificed himself to throw out a potential base runner. This got the home crowd excited and Sean Newcomb picked up the win in celebration.

Tyler Flowers did something yesterday that hasn’t happened very often in the Braves lineup this season. He hit a grand slam that helped kick start the Atlanta Braves offense. There were plenty of smiles in the Braves dugout yesterday as the Braves were hitting the ball well in front of their home crowd. Brandon Phillips and Freddie Freeman both got 3 hits yesterday and not to be outdone Ozzie Albies and Dansby Swanson both got 2 hits yesterday as well. Brandon Phillips is getting closer to his 2,000th career hit. He is only 7 hits away from 2,000 career hits and he is hoping to accomplish this feat in front of his home crowd in Atlanta.

The Braves big hit came off the bat of Tyler Flowers and this was only the 3rd grand slam for the Braves this season. The Braves have had many opportunities to hit grand slams this year but have been unable to do so. Tyler Flowers and Kurt Suzuki have shared the starting catcher’s role this season and it has worked out very well for the Braves. Both players are providing plenty of power and consistency at the lineup spot and Braves manager Brian Snitker is making the right decisions on which player should start for each game. All MLB teams carry at least 2 catchers on their roster and the Braves are no different.

Tonight the Braves will start a new series with the Seattle Mariners and Mike Foltynewicz looks to get back on track. Foltynewicz has not pitched very well in his last 2 starts on the road but he is hoping to turn things around at home tonight. If the Braves want to finish off the 2017 season on a high note, they need to win series and take one game at a time. The Braves are probably not going to the playoffs in 2017 but they are show casing some of their young talent. Ozzie Albies, Dansby Swanson, Mike Foltynewicz, Sean Newcomb, Lucas Sims, and Johan Camargo are just a few of the new faces the Braves fans have seen this year who will be playing vital roles in upcoming seasons. Let’s try to win tonight and see what the future holds. GO BRAVES!!!!!
