The Braves rally late but the Mariners win the first game of the series.

Mike Foltynewicz is in a slump on the mound . He has lost his last 3 starts and he can not find the control in his pitches that helped him earlier this season. It is difficult to tell if it is a mechanical problem or if mentally he is talking himself out of making the right pitches. The Atlanta Braves starting rotation has been on a rollercoaster ride this season and all the Braves starters have struggled during the season. The Braves once were known for their great starting pitching and are looking to get back to that threshold, but the pitching staff can not seem to find their grove in the 2017 season.

The lack of run support isn’t helping the Braves team either. The 2017 Braves are creating a reputation as rallying late in the game to come back and win. It is nice to see to see that the Braves have that spirit of not giving up, but the fact that the Braves can not score runs early and often has to be stressful on the players and coaches. Last night the Braves had runners on base in the 6th inning and their second baseman Ozzie Albies got a triple in the inning driving in 2 runs. Ozzie Albies is quickly becoming a fan favorite with his speed and great plays in the field. He and Dansby Swanson are becoming the duo up the middle that Braves fans have been waiting for.

Nick Markakis continues to hit the ball well. Matt Kemp’s return to the lineup is not allowing pitchers to pitch around Freddie Freeman. The power of Matt Kemp and Nick Markakis is a double power threat and either catcher Tyler Flowers or Kurt Suzuki are waiting. Last night Kurt Suzuki hit a solo shot homerun and the catching role in the Braves lineup is producing. The offense in Atlanta is there, but not having to come back in almost every game would be nice.

Tonight Lucas Sims will get the start at SunTrust Park. Sims has been a nice addition to the Braves starting pitching rotation, and he will be able to show the fans in Atlanta how good he can be. The Braves are still looking to get back to.a .500 record for the season and ever since the Braves reached that goal about a month ago the team has lost it’s vibe. The season is not over yet and hopefully the Braves can start a new winning streak tonight. GO BRAVES!!!!!.
