Maybe a day off is exactly what the Braves needed? My expectations were low last night for the Atlanta Braves vs. the Colorado Rockies. Julio Teheran has not had a good year pitching at SunTrust Park and his numbers justify that statement. Last night Julio Teheran was sharp and looked well rested as he was able to handle the Rockies lineup once again. Teheran pitched a great game at Coors field and did not allow a run in 7 innings a couple of weeks ago in Colorado. Last night in Atlanta he handled the Rockies offense once again. He did give up 2 earned runs last night but the Braves offense provided the runs he desperately needed.
Matt Kemp got the scoring started early in the game when he hit a 2 run homerun in the 1st inning. The entire Braves lineup was hitting the ball well against the Colorado pitching staff. Catcher Kurt Suzuki had another homerun for the Braves with a solo shot. Suzuki matched his career high in homeruns last night in his career, and he only plays part time sharing the catching duties with Tyler Flowers. The Braves also enjoyed playing small ball as they were able to score runs without relying on the homerun.
Ozzie Albies is 1 of the most exciting players to watch in the Braves lineup. His speed on the base pads is something to sit back and enjoy. The future of the Braves 2nd base position looks to be in good hands. Ever since Dansby Swanson was called up from AAA Gwinnett he has been very impressive. Swanson is not only hitting the ball well but he has become very patient at the plate and is getting more walks to 1st base. The Braves pitchers are show casing their abilities to hit sacrifice bunts to move the base runners up 90 feet and last night Julio Teheran did just that. Whenever Johan Camargo comes off the disabled list the Braves will have fast position players available in their lineup and it’s been awhile since the Braves have seen young and fast players on the team.
Tonight the Braves can win the series against the Rockies with a win and the team will send Sean Newcomb to the mound. The Braves have not won a series since early August and the Braves fans have been patiently waiting. It is nice to see some of the young talent the Braves have at their disposal. There are some issues still lingering in the Braves lineup. What to do at 3rd base is 1 of them. Brandon Phillips and Freddie Freeman have both filled the role at that position but those are just quick fixes. Hopefully this young and dynamic offense the Braves minor leagues has developed well mix well with the veteran players in their lineup. Tonight’s game should be a lot of fun and hopefully the Braves offense will provide plenty of runs and Sean Newcomb can tame the Rockies offense. GO BRAVES!!!!!
