Matt Adams hits a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the 9th inning, but a late inning homerun wins the game for the Rockies.

The Atlanta Braves had their opportunities last night but the Colorado Rockies were able to win the game at SunTrust Park. Starting pitcher Sean Newcomb struggled last night in Atlanta and gave up 4 earned runs however he was not involved in the final decision in last night’s game. The Braves closer Arodys Vizcaino allowed a 2 run homerun in the top of the 9th inning and that sealed the game although the Braves managed to make a comeback in the bottom of the 9th inning but came up 1 run short of sending the game to extra innings.

Matt Adams came to the plate in a pitch hitting role last night and brought the crowd to it’s feet with a 2 run shot to pull the Braves closer to an extra innings game.  The Braves did hit the ball well last night and Ender Inciatre, Brandon Phillips, and Nick Markakis all had 2 hits in last night’s game. Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp in the middle of the Braves lineup did not have a good night at the plate. Ozzie Albies had a 3 hit performance last night that included a double and a triple. Dansby Swanson went 2 for 3 at the plate and the bottom of the Braves lineup has had an outstanding home stand against the Rockies pitching.

Dansby Swanson is much more patient at the plate and he also is drawing more walks since being recalled to the Braves lineup after the injury to Johan Camargo. Dansby Swanson has been a bit of a disappointment to the Braves fans this season. At the end of the 2016 season Swanson was called up to the Braves lineup and he took the league by storm with his hitting, power, and speed on the base pads but the pitching coaches figured out how to pitch against him in the off season and early on in Spring training. Now Dansby Swanson is being much more patient at the plate and he is getting more walks to 1st base.

This afternoon Mike Foltynewicz is hoping to turn things around at SunTrust Park. Foltynewicz has struggled in his last few starts and has been pulled early in the game after allowing the opposing team a several run advantage. Braves manager Brian Snitker will make his lineup later this morning and it will be interesting to see what if any changes he makes to today’s lineup. The great hitting and speed at the bottom of the Braves lineup is fun to watch and hopefully Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp will both swing a hot bat in the last game of the series with the Rockies. It’s been awhile since the Braves have won a series and today might be the day that happens. GO BRAVES!!!!!
