All good things come to an end, even for veteran pitchers like R.A. Dickey. Dickey grew up as an Atlanta Braves fan and last night he pitched 1 of his best games of his career against the Washington Nationals. Dickey pitched 8 strong innings and helped the Braves match their total wins for the 2016 season with 68 wins. The Braves only have 10 games left in the 2017 season and the Braves will start their last home series tonight at SunTrust Park against the Philadelphia Phillies.
R.A. Dickey will make his decision if he wants to return for his 18th season in the off season, but Dickey was 1 of the most consistent pitchers in the Braves starting pitching rotation this season. Last night the knuckle baller held the Nationals to only 2 runs as his teammates scored enough runs to secure the win for their veteran pitcher. Arodys Vizcaino came into the 9th inning to get the final 3 outs and pick up the save for the Braves last night. Dickey will still have at least 1 more start in the 2017 season but last night was his final game in Atlanta for his hometown team.
Last night Ozzie Albies put on a hitting clinic in Atlanta and he was 3 for 4 at the plate. He drove in a run and scored 1 of the 3 Braves runs last night. Ozzie Albies has pretty much earned his starting job at 2nd base for the Braves which had been the Achilles heel for the Braves over the last few seasons. Albies speed on the base pads and his consistency at the plate is making him 1 of the most exciting and popular players for the Atlanta Braves. The future for the Braves infield is starting to make it’s roots for the Braves of the future. Dansby Swanson has been playing solidly at shortstop and Johan Camargo is filling in the role of 3rd base for the Braves. Rio Ruiz is also an option for Braves manager Brian Snitker and watching the young players in Atlanta compete for starting jobs for the 2018 season is very exciting.
Tonight Sean Newcomb will start for the Braves in their final series at at SunTrust Park. The Braves will play their division rival the Philadelphia Phillies tonight as the Braves hope to close out their final home series. The Braves will only need 1 more win in the 2017 season to win more games than the 2016 Braves which is what Braves president John Hart and Braves general manager John Coppolella had been wanting this season for the Braves. The Braves off season will be interesting to see who the team will keep and if they are active in the free agent market. The Braves have built 1 of the best if not the best farm systems in major league baseball. The Braves will be competitive for many years to come as their young players start to reach their potential. Enjoy the final home series as the Braves look to close out the 2017 season in style GO BRAVES!!!!!
