The Braves drop the first game of their weekend series against the Diamondbacks.

The game started off very exciting at SunTrust Park in Atlanta. The Atlanta Braves played in front of the biggest crowd in SunTrust Park history. The Braves sent Anibal Sanchez to the mound and the crowd was electric. The Arizona Diamondbacks had just dropped a series to the Colorado Rockies. The National League West will be a close division race. The National League East has plenty of excitement as well. The Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies are trying to grasp their hold of the division lead before the All Star Break starting Monday.

It is nice to see the fans of Atlanta come alive and supporting their team. The first inning had Freddie Freeman get his first of his 2 hits. Freeman would come around to score the game’s first run off of Kurt Suzuki’s double to right center field. Alas that would be the only run for the Braves. This game was hyped as a pitcher’s duel. The Braves who are known for late inning heroics could not score the necessary runs. The Diamondbacks starting pitcher was Zack Godley and he brought his A game to Atlanta. Godley pitched 6 strong innings and picked up the win. This will be a good test for both ball clubs as they look to take their perspective divisions.

The Braves fans expect a division title this year and the team seems to have all of the necessary pieces. Some fans may argue the team should trade the farm to make a trade before the deadline. Alex Anthopoulos the Braves General Manager is considering all kinds of different trade scenarios but is that what the Braves should be doing? Sure we are all big fans and we want a World Series title yesterday. The Braves are in a great situation at the end of the season where they will have money to pursue some of the big free agents in baseball. How ironic would it be if the Braves pursued Bryce Harper? It’s a very long shot but the Washington Nationals aren’t running away the National League East this year. After the All Star break there will be 81 games left. A lot of strange things have happened in baseball and since it is Friday the 13th the unknown is possible. The fans, players, and coaches should enjoy Friday Night Fireworks tonight, there is plenty more in store for the 2018 season. GO BRAVES!!!
